Killswitch Engage – Atonement [2019]

Killswitch Engage Atonement Track List

Atonement is the eighth studio album by American metalcore band Killswitch Engage, released on August 16, 2019 via Metal Blade Records. It appeared just at the moment when it was especially needed: by this moment nu metal was outdated and boring, and the audience wanted to return to the real, pristine sound. With this recording, Killswitch Engage tried to convince everyone that their style, very much like the beast on the album cover, is alive and out for blood. Undoubtedly the climax is The Signal Fire, in which former Howard Jones vocalist joins in on the second verse, creating an indescribable combination of two of the most powerful voices in metal. Atonement is crisp, clear and harsh as Lead Producer Adam Dutkiewicz did his best to make the recording sound great without losing its raw power. Killswitch Engage managed to avoid the overuse of compression and noise reduction that became fashionable in the post-djent era. A small exception was made in the opening and best song of the album, Unleashed. There are hints of it here, but thanks to the innate taste, the guitars still sound like guitars in this composition! The album is structured according to the usual scheme for the group: first the four best songs, and then the cruise control. And finally, the composition – Bite the Hand That Feeds – which brings everything back to square one.
