Skillet – Standing in the Storm

Standing in the Storm

[Intro: John Cooper & Jen Ledger]
I still got some life in me
You can try to shake me
I still got some fight in me
You can never break me, break me

[Verse 1: John Cooper & Jen Ledger, Both]
I see the clouds around me start to darken
Like searchin' eyes of serpents always watchin'
Tell me I'm still breathin' (Breathin')
Tell me there's still feelin' (Feelin')
Resistance makes me stronger
It makes me stronger

[Refrain 1: John Cooper & Jen Ledger]
Time for me to be defiant
'Cause I won't be silenced
When I suffer (Oh-oh oh-oh)
Slingin' shots to Goliath
Gonna call down fire
In rain and thunder (Oh-oh oh-oh)

[Pre-Chorus 1: John Cooper & Jen Ledger, Both]
I see the world around me start to darken
Resistance makes me stronger
So make me stronger (Stronger, stronger, stronger)
Whatever comes (Comes)

[Chorus 1: John Cooper]
I'm standin' in the storm like never before
The pressure builds around me
Let the winds surround me

[Post-Chorus 1: John Cooper]
Whatever comes
I'm not givin' up
Fearless as a lion
Not afraid o' dyin'

[Breakdown: John Cooper & Jen Ledger]
I still got some life in me
You can try to shake me
I still got some fight in me
You can never break me

[Chorus 2: John Cooper]
I'm standin' in the storm like never before
The pressure builds around me
Let the winds surround me

[Post-Chorus 2: John Cooper]
I'll stand in the storm (Storm)
I still got some life in me
I'll stand in the storm (Storm)
I still got some fight in me

[Verse 2: John Cooper & Jen Ledger, Both]
I feel the voices underneath me callin'
I sink into the graveyard of the fallen
Tell me that you hear 'em (Hear 'em)
Tell me that you don't fear 'em (Fear 'em)
Resist a little longer
Death before dishonor

[Refrain 2: John Cooper & Jen Ledger]
Nothin' left to be decided
'Cause I won't be quiet
When they threaten (Oh-oh oh-oh)
Through the hate and the violence
Got truth on my side and
Love's my weapon (Oh-oh oh-oh)

[Pre-Chorus 2: John Cooper & Jen Ledger, Both]
I feel the voices underneath me callin'
Resist a little longer
Death before dishonor (—honor, —honor, —honor)
Whatever comes (Comes)

[Chorus 1: John Cooper]
I'm standin' in the storm like never before
The pressure builds around me
Let the winds surround me

[Post-Chorus 1: John Cooper]
Whatever comes
I'm not givin' up
Fearless as a lion
Not afraid o' dyin'

[Breakdown: John Cooper & Jen Ledger]
I still got some life in me
You can try to shake me
I still got some fight in me
You can never break me

[Chorus 2: John Cooper]
I'm standin' in the storm like never before
The pressure builds around me
Let the winds surround me

[Post-Chorus 2: John Cooper]
I'll stand in the storm (Storm)
I'll stand in the storm (Storm)

[Bridge: John Cooper]
Slingin' shots at Goliath
Slingin' shots at Goliath
Time for me to be defiant

[Breakdown: John Cooper & Jen Ledger]
You can try to shake me
I still got some life in me
But you can never break me
I still got some fight in me

[Chorus 1: John Cooper]
I'm standin' in the storm like never before
The pressure builds around me
Let the winds surround me

[Post-Chorus 1: John Cooper]
Whatever comes
I'm not givin' up
Fearless as a lion
Not afraid o' dyin'

[Breakdown: John Cooper & Jen Ledger]
I still got some life in me
You can try to shake me
I still got some fight in me
But you can never break me

[Chorus 2: John Cooper]
I'm standin' in the storm like never before
The pressure builds around me
Let the winds surround me

[Outro: John Cooper]
I'll stand in the storm (Storm, storm)
I still got some life in me

On November 12, 2021, Skillet unveiled a new song and video for "Standing in the Storm" during a live stream on YouTube. The track will be the second in the next album "Dominion", which is expected to be released on January 14, 2022. Unexpectedly for many fans, the band has significantly enriched their traditional rock sound by introducing elements of trap music into it. Quality mixing harmoniously combines electronic intros and rap beats with guitars, powerful drums and vocals from Jen Ledger and John Cooper. The strong lyrics continue the line outlined in the previously released single "Surviving the game" – the survivor of the game will be able to overcome fear and survive even in a terrible storm. The impression is heightened by the repeated repetition of the catchy chorus. An overly discerning music lover, of course, can find flaws in the composition, but undoubtedly, it has increased the expectations from the release of the group's new album.
